Antivirus takes longer to scan than it used to?

I use symantec endpoint protection and the ative scan says it should only take 1-2 minutes. when i used to run the active scan it only took 50 seconds. now it takes 5 minutes. it is the same amount of files because i remember the number of files was 9 hundred and something and it still is. why has the time for this scan gotten worse?
