How long does a normal drug high last?

I'm writing a short story about a druggie and since I don't do drugs and I don't know anyone who does I have no clue how long a drug high would last. Oh and I'm talking about drugs like cocaine, meth, heroin, and what not, so if someone could please tell me you'd really be helping me.
